    Description

In this listing we are offering an example of the 1972 limited edition reproduction "Butting Match" animated toy cast iron cap pistol. This is a 1972 copy of a circa 1880's cap pistol. This reproduction has very fine details as it was produced directly from an original brass pattern which was originally also used for making the 1880's original version of the cap pistol. This limited edition 1972 cap pistol has a low number of 157 in the series of 2000 pieces.
This particular example has a very attractive original, as issued, coppery brown finish. In the series of 2000 only approximately 300 were issued in this coppery brown finish. Two were issued in actual gold plated finish & the balance of the issue made were produced in glossy black finish. So, there were a lot less issued of the coppery brown finish example we are offering than were issued of the version with the black finish. The cap pistol is approximately 4 3/4 inches long by 3 3/8 inches tall. The box is 7 inches long by 5 5/8 inches deep by 2 3/8 inches thick.
The cap pistol is housed in it's original heavy thick solid cherry wood box which is velvet lined & has brass fittings. There are a few small nicks/flaws (as made) to the cherry wood top which were present when this was issued in 1972. The top of box retains the original brass plaque which has the incised wording: "Butting Match 157 of 2000" (plaque shows natural age toning). The back edge of the box has the original brass hinges (hinges need to be slightly tightened). The front top edge of the box has a pivoting brass catch which hooks to a brass piece which is attached to the bottom edge for securing the closure of the lid. The top section of the clasp is present (but clasp is detached) & is missing the two tiny brass nails which originally held it in place. When issued there was a loose piece of parchment paper with some info in the box. This paper is not present.
The cap pistol is in superb original condition. There are no cracks, no chips to the metal, & no repairs. There are only a few small surface flakes of wear off of the attractive coppery brown finish. The cap pistol is in sound operational condition. The weight of the cap pistol alone is 5.9 ounces. The weight of the cherry wood box alone is 1 pound 7.2 ounces. So, the total weight of the cap pistol including the thick & heavy solid cherry wood box is 1 pound 13.1 ounces.
